ITT Recap

The 2014 Little 500 Individual Time Trials was an experience I will remember for the rest of my life – truly a turning point for the program. The results proved our hard training throughout the year is paying off.

Chris Craig: 1st (2:22.98)
Kyle Knight: 7th (2:24:48)
Joe Laughlin: 17th (2:26.56)
AJ Sood: 81st (2:37:79)

To have 3 in the top 20 and AJ improving by 15 seconds from his fall series is a dream come true.  ITT’s gave us confidence and excitement to see what we can do come April 26th.  I am proud of my three teammates.  They’re looking great on the track.  We all truly enjoy the time we have out on the track.

Analyzing my own personal performance at ITT’s, I’m still shocked I was able to produce the fastest time of the day, and the fastest in Beta history.  My first lap I started slowly at 38 seconds.  My second lap I really sped up to a very quick 33.5 seconds.  Then the last two laps I kept it right around 35 seconds to bring in the win. When I took the lead I thought for sure a few of the top riders would beat me.  But, as the power hour came to close, Anderson calls me and says “Chris you got to get to the track. You’re still in first!”  I immediately went back to the track, and as the final riders finished their ITT’s, I officially won.  I’m honored to be at the level as these other phenomenal athletes – and look forward to competing against them on race day.

Watch out for Beta on April 26th. If we don’t crash, get the right lines, and have a little bit of luck – I know Beta Theta Pi will be a factor in the final laps of this year’s race.
