Rookie Week Recap

Last week Rookie Week finally came to a close.  For the readers who do not know what Rookie week is, it is a week that allows the 1st year riders (rookies) to learn the basics of Little 500 before the track officially opens to veteran riders.  This includes learning how to jump on a bike while moving, how to safely ride in a pack, and how to execute a successful exchange.   Riders Council members put on several clinics, drills, and the occasional friendly competition to get us acquainted.  Fortunately for us, Eric Anderson is on Riders Council this year, so having him out there to help us was a huge asset.

As one of the three Beta cyclists that completed Rookie Week this year I can confidently say it was a successful week.  Although we have not come close to mastering the techniques of riding on the track, we have definitely made major improvements that we will build upon during the following weeks prior to the race.  For the rookies, we will be focusing most of our track time on two things; improving our pack riding, and our exchanges.  These will be two areas we will work on ever yday at the track in order to perform to our potential for the race.  As the Little 500 comes closer and closer we are becoming more prepared and looking forward to our hard work paying off.
