Summer 2014 Update

After the 2014 Little 500, the Beta cycling team finished off the school year and headed in every direction. Chris headed back to Detroit to spend time with this family before beginning his internship in Chicago, Joe, along with new teammate John Hyndman, went back to his home in Fort Wayne, AJ went on trips to Columbia and El Salvador on mission work, and I helped my mom move out of our house of 17 years (you can’t even imagine the amount of stuff I had to move).

The effects of the emotional roller coaster from the Little 500 poured over us after the race, and we were all in need of some time off. So as we went our separate ways we decided to all take the time we each needed to recover, so that we were ready come Fall. The summer is our off season, recovering mentally and physically from the long Spring Semester, but it is also our time to work on our racing tactics. Chris Joe, and John have raced in a handful of criteriums up north, I have once again dived back into the Velodrome, and AJ (recently getting back from his trips and taking Organic Chemistry) is out doing Nebo Ridge rides every Tuesday/Thursday.

Last weekend we had the luxury of reuniting for the first time this summer, aside from John who had to join his sister in Northern Ohio for some family time. We went on a short recovery ride around AJ’s lake house and then spent the rest of the night relaxing, laughing about the most memorable moments from the past year, and talking about the race. During our conversations it was clear the amount of passion, and enthusiasm this team has for the upcoming training and Little 5 season.

Last year we thought we trained hard, and we did, but we now realize a whole other level we are capable of achieving. It’s hard to know what kind of training works best for you until you have completed the race, and now we all know what each of our weaknesses are. Anything less than a dominating win next year will be a disappointment for this team. With the race ending the way it did last year, we have a chip on our shoulder going into next year.

I promise that we are going to do everything we to win the race and complete our unfinished business.
